What Is Modified Polyimide?
Modified polyimide is a high-performance PI material enhanced with selected fillers or functional modifications to improve wear resistance, friction behavior, load capacity, conductivity, anti-static performance, thermal stability or machinability for specific service conditions. Compared with unfilled PI, modified grades are often chosen when the application requires more targeted performance in sliding, sealing, insulating or ESD-sensitive environments.
At Dalian Allstar Material , we provide modified PI materials for demanding applications in semiconductor, aerospace, electronics, automotive, machinery and high-temperature industrial systems. Depending on the working condition, we can recommend graphite-filled, PTFE-filled, conductive, anti-static or carbon-fiber-reinforced PI grades in stock shapes or custom-machined components.

Graphite Filled vs PTFE Filled vs Conductive vs Anti-Static PI
Different modified PI grades are designed for different engineering priorities. Graphite-filled grades are commonly selected for improved wear resistance and lower friction in sliding applications. PTFE-modified grades are often used where reduced stick-slip behavior and smoother dry-running performance are important. Conductive PI grades are used when static discharge or conductivity control is required, while anti-static grades are suitable for environments where electrostatic buildup must be managed without relying on standard insulating materials alone.
If you are replacing metal, PEEK, PAI or unfilled PI, the correct choice depends on temperature, load, speed, humidity, electrical requirement and part geometry. Instead of selecting by material name only, it is better to choose the grade based on the actual operating condition.

Typical Applications of Modified Polyimide Materials

For Bearings, Bushings and Sliding Parts
Modified PI grades with low-friction and wear-resistant performance are suitable for dry-running or high-temperature sliding applications where long service life and dimensional stability are required.
For Seals, Valve Seats and Compressor Components
Modified PI is widely used for sealing and wear parts that operate under heat, pressure or repeated motion, especially when lower friction and reliable structural performance are important. For Semiconductor and Electronics Fixtures
Conductive and anti-static PI grades are used in ESD-sensitive environments for fixtures, insulating supports, chip testing tools and other precision handling components.
For Aerospace and High-Temperature Systems
Modified PI can be selected for lightweight, high-temperature and dimensionally stable parts used in demanding thermal or mechanical conditions.

Frequently Asked Questions About Modified Polyimide
What is modified polyimide?
Modified polyimide is PI material enhanced with fillers or functional adjustments to improve properties such as wear resistance, low friction behavior, conductivity, anti-static performance, thermal stability or processability for specific industrial applications.
What is the difference between modified PI and pure PI?
Pure PI offers excellent thermal and mechanical performance, while modified PI is designed to deliver more targeted performance for special conditions such as dry running, ESD control, lower friction or improved dimensional stability in actual service environments.
What fillers are commonly used in modified PI?
Depending on the grade and application target, modified PI may include graphite, PTFE, conductive additives, anti-static systems, carbon fiber or other functional reinforcement materials.
Which modified PI grade is best for wear-resistant applications?
The best grade depends on temperature, load, speed, mating material and service environment. Wear-resistant applications often use graphite-filled or other low-friction modified PI grades, but grade selection should be based on the actual operating condition.
Do you offer conductive and anti-static PI grades?
Yes. We offer conductive and anti-static modified PI grades for semiconductor, electronics and other ESD-sensitive applications.
What forms are available?
Modified PI can be supplied as sheet, rod, tube and custom-machined parts depending on the grade and project requirement.
